In 2004, Czech Airlines carried a record number of passengers: a total of 4.34 million. CSA also managed to provide its passengers with a high standard of services, especially as far as flight on time performance is concerned. CSA was ranked sixth overall among European carriers and improved its position by 14 places when compared to 2003. The number of flights showed the same type of growth rate – the number of flights grew by 21%, which represents a total of 32 699 flights. Ten new destinations appeared in the Czech Airlines timetable. New European Union destinations were added to its network (Glasgow, Krakow, London-Gatwick, Luxemburg, Marseille), and extended connections to the Russian Federation. Czech Airlines also began flying to Baku in Azerbaijan and the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. At the same time, after the Czech Republic joined the European Union, Czech Airlines entered a completely new market. For the first time in its history, Czech Airlines offered a flight outside the area of the Czech Republic – by connecting Marseille and Barcelona. London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York and Moscow are some of the most popular Czech Airlines destinations. Czech Airlines HistoryCzech Airlines was established as Czechoslovak State Airlines on the 6th of October 1923. That was the year when the first transport flight from Prague to Bratislava took place. Six years later, the company became a member of IATA (International Air Transport Association) and in 1930 it started operating international services. In 1998, at the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the company, new flights were opened to Oslo, Nice and Bologna. In 2001,Czech Airlines joined the SkyTeam alliance.
